What is Pragmatic Works Foundation?

Founded in January of 2009, the Pragmatic Works Foundation was created as a way for founder and CEO of Pragmatic Works, Brian Knight to give back to the community he grew up in. Entering into the IT industry when little background was needed, Brian empathizes with individuals trying to gain access into an industry that has become more challenging to enter. The focus of the foundation’s Technology and Career Training Program are transitioning veterans as well as our unemployed and underemployed population. Over the last 4 years the foundation has trained over 300 people with 75% of them successfully securing positions in the IT field. In 2012, the foundation incorporated a Youth Technology Camp, to teach kids around the region necessary STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) skills to get them excited about a career in Information Technology, and give hope to underprivileged children who never knew they could learn a skill that may lead to a rewarding and lucrative career.

  • If it wasn't for Pragmatic Works, I would not be where I'm at now. They pushed me to the point to where I thought I couldn't keep going, but I did and this oppurtunity has changed my whole life dramatically. I have met some great people that believed in me and they put their reputation on the line for me. It has taken a huge burden off me and my family job wise and financially. Words won't ever express how Pragmatic Works changed my life for better. It has all changed for me. I'm happy and will be provided a great future for me and my family - Allen Mccullough
  • PW foundation has opened a wide door of opportunities in the T-SQL world for me. I am forever thankful for the investment (time, resources and training) PW foundation made in helping people discovering their true talents in technology, and for helping me aim my career in the right direction- Sardys Avile-Martinez
  • After learning those beginning T-SQL skills in the PWF, I was able to get into an interview and on Friday afternoon accepted my first IT position as a Data Analyst. It is always exciting to get a new job, but this feels different because it is definitely something that I want to do long-term. - Guy Johns
  • Words can express my gratitude to the entire PW family for being the stepping stone for launching my career and bringing out the best in me. The PWF was definitely a game changer for my career and brought out the best in me. I’m currently working as a SQL Server DBA for a Marketing Intelligence company in Dallas, Texas. - Miyaka Tabe, MCTS
  • My plan was, once I got into the IT field, to learn T-SQL more in-depth so I could improve my skills and prove myself with the company. The foundation did not disappoint me, in fact, they exceeded my expectations. After doing the 5 day class, not only did I learn the foundation of T-SQL, I was also trained on how to prepare for an interview. I feel more empowered and more confident in facing potential recruiters and employers. - Marvin Chua
